MISSION STATEMENT
To promote the Flatonia community and its businesses by enhancing commerce, tourism and beautification through partnerships within the community in order to maintain the safe, clean and friendly atmosphere in which we live.

WELCOME

Director Jennifer Boland (Flatonia Café & Tearoom) has graciously agreed to accept the job of President the reminder of the year. Be sure to offer her your support because it is a tireless and thankless job.

The Board of Directors wishes to welcome Eric Tijerina to the Board. We appreciate his willing to serve.

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

The Chamber would like to recognize the following new members Glass House Antiques, Hooman's Travel Center,
Jeff & Kathy Hairgrove, and Lillian Wotipka. Thanks to you and all our members. We are now 134 strong!

CHAMBER ACTIVITIES

The Fall Market Days is fast approaching. Carrie Baumbach (Headquarters) has agreed to Chair the event again. It will be held Saturday, Sept. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Space size is 10x10 and costs $25.00. Shop owners are encouraged to have sidewalk sales or offer special discounts. Residential garage sales will again be encouraged. A Health Fair will be held in the Civic Center.

Of course the Czhilispiel Committee has been busy working. In case you have not heard some of the entertainers will be the Red Ravens, Dujka Brothers, The Emotions, the Mad Hatter Magician, the Czech Folk Dancers from West, Matt Powell, Cooder Graw, Cory Morrow, Bruce Robinson & Charlie Robison and The Telstars. That is a lot for the price of admission, especially if you will have a $3.00 worker's pass. That is just a $1.00 a day to attend. If that is not enough we will have three model railroad layouts from three different railroad clubs in Texas on display in the civic center. Railroad tower tours will also be given. The train observation pavilion will be built by that time also. There will be a lot of the traditional things at Czhilispiel but there will new things too. If you are not involved and want to be just let us know; we'll put you to work.

MEMBER SERVICES

LCRA is again offering educational opportunities. There is a workshop in Bastrop on Thursday, August 15 on "How to Develop & Enhance you Chamber Skills". If you are interested in attending call the Chamber office for more information. Deadline to sign up is August 5. Another course is "Conflict Management" held on Thursday,
September 5 in Buchanan Dam, Texas.

A special invitation is extended to all our Chamber members to come to the next Board meeting of Wed., August 21. Members are always welcome.

The Fall Mixer will be held in Sept. the date & time to be announced. Brian & Lori Berger and Krazy Kirb's DJ Service will sponsor the event.. You will be mailed a reminder.

The Fayette County Chambers are creating a trail of lights holiday brochure. In Flatonia, the City, the Chamber
and Fayette Electric are partnering to brighten up our community. If your business is interested in purchasing
Christmas lights and having them installed please contact the Chair Paula Kraumetbauer (The Wishing Well) at
865-3360 and get on the list. The cost is $1.25 a ft. The deadlilne to sign up is Aug. 20.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is having a Technical Assistance Program Seminar in San Antonio on Aug. 27. You can hear directly from the experts on the latest developments in EEO laws and how they can affect your managers and employees. The cost is $265. Call 202-663-7071 to register.

DID YOU KNOW ?

.…..that the Chamber Ofiice is located in the Civic Center as in years past. In mentioning the Civic Center, please watch as improvements continue to be made to the building. Recently the north overhead door was replaced with double doors. This will surely help with the cooling and heating situation. The interior PA system has been upgraded and an external PA system was added. The office space has been completely renovated and new shelving was added to the storage area. A flagstaff and bulletin board have been added to the outside. The hallways are the next focus. It is planned to have a community calendar on the wall so ever church, organization, club, etc. can
list their event for all to see. You can start calling your activity in now if you like.

…… that Michael and Barbara Branceky have purchased the building at 117 E. North Main. The plan is to renovate the building. The space, which adjoins the Antique Shop, will become Mike's Architectural Office; the space, which has housed the Liquor Store, will be offered as Lease Space.

….. .that Ken & Loretta Freytag recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They also continue to be the Chamber's tour guides for the bus tours at no charge. Thanks and congratulations, Ken & Loretta!

….. .that Stockmen's Restaurant now added a BBQ dining room. It is open Thurs. through Sat. from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The food is served buffet style.

……that Chamber member Fayette Co. Commission for the Mentally Retarted recently received the prestigious Frank M. Adams Award for outstanding community volunteer service. Congratulations!
