Home of Czhilispiel, Chili Cookoff Celebration held every fourth weekend in October.   The World's Largest Tented Biergarten hosting the 2nd Largest Chili Cookoff in Texas. October 25th - 27th

After 30 years of providing the best in food, fun and music, Czhilispiel is "Still Hot!" Flatonia's family-loving, fun filled festival is slated for October 25-27, 2002. "Czhilispiel is still hot," said Jennifer Boland, President of the Flatonia Chamber of Commerce. "We host the second largest chili cook-off in Texas. We have the World's Largest Tented Biergarten. This year we have put together a superstar line up of Texas musicians. Heck, Czhilispiel is not just hot - it's sizzling."

While many folks come to enjoy the world-class "Czhili" that made Czhilispiel famous, others come for the music. And this year's Saturday line up is a who's-who of trendsetters in Texas Music: Cooder Graw, Bruce Robinson, Cory Morrow and Charlie Robison. These acts, who have created their own uniquely Lone Star sounds, are literally turning the music world upside down. On Saturday, admission is $5.00 before 2:00 p.m.; it's $15.00 after 2:00 p.m. The John Evans Band will also perform.

Friday night is "Czech Night" with perennial favorites, The Dujka Brothers and the Red Ravens, providing the polka tunes. Admission is $5.00. While on Sunday, the sounds are pure fun with the Louisiana rhythms of Wilfred Chevis and Texas Zydeco and the smooth country of The Telstars, providing the back beat for the day's activities. Admission is free.

The weekend is laced with opportunities for family fun. There will be a carnival, arts and crafts, a fun run, a car and truck show, and a model train exhibit. It that's not enough, a magician will entertain the kids and the "Czech Folk Dancers of West" will be dancing up a storm.

In addition to the spicy competition (and eats) at the Czhilispiel Cook-off, the festival hosts an acclaimed Barbecue Cook-off. Teams will square off over smoldering pits of pork ribs, brisket and chickens vying for bragging rights at the IBAC-sanctioned cook-off. Food booths offering everything from alligator tail to turkey legs abound.

"The only place hotter than Czhilispiel 30 is the surface of the sun," Boland said. "For a good time that will make sizzling memories, join us."
